The Cleaning Checklist for Moving

The last thing most people want to do before or after moving is cleaning out the last place they lived. But, if you’ve managed to take care of the place and not damage things, cleaning it up really isn’t that hard of a task and can significantly increase your chances of receiving your full deposit back or being able to sell your home easily. Here’s our home cleaning checklist to keep in mind if you’re getting ready to move:

Whole House

• Remove nails, screws or other hardware from walls and/or ceiling.
• Putty any holes in walls or ceiling smoothly.
• Dust fixtures.
• Dust ledges.
• Clean switches and outlets.
• Clean windows.
• Clean baseboards and walls.
• Remove cobwebs.
• Hire a professional carpet cleaner.

Bathrooms

• Remove soap scum from tiles, tub and/or shower.
• Bleach grout.
• Thoroughly clean drawers, counters, and vanities.
• Clean toilets and sinks.
• Sweep and mop floors.
• Clean mirrors.

Kitchen

• Clean inside of cabinets and any liners.
• Clean the front of cabinets.
• Clean all countertops.
• Clean sink and fixtures.
• Thoroughly clean inside/outside of the refrigerator.
• Thoroughly clean inside/outside of oven (steel wool works well).
• Thoroughly clean inside/outside of dishwasher (if one is in the home).
• Clean behind ALL appliances.

Living Room

• Dust entire room.
• Thoroughly clean floors.

Bedrooms

• Dust entire room.
• Thoroughly clean floors.

Garage

• Thoroughly dust, sweep and mop entire garage.

Making sure that the home you are moving out of is thoroughly cleaned can be extremely beneficial to receiving your deposit back or impressing potential buyers.
